Smarter Energy Serves the World’s First ±1100kV UHVDC Transmission Project

    As a service provider of Smarter Energy and intelligent city system, Far East Smarter Energy Co., Ltd. (Smarter Energy; stock code: 600869), will supply the transmission conductors with groundbreaking technology for the world’s first ±1100kV UHVDC transmission project by China.

    The conductors to be used in the Changji-Guquan ±1100kV UHVDC transmission project are the ones for smart grid manufactured by Smarter Energy. As an UHV transmission project with the highest voltage level, largest transmission capacity and longest transmission distance as well as the cutting-edge technology, the project is 3,304.7 kilometers long and has a transmission capacity of 12 GW through the ±1100kV UHVDC power transmission line.

Changji-Guquan ±1100kV UHVDC Transmission Project

    The planned project will transmit power from Xinjiang region in the northwest, to Anhui Province in the eastern China, and will set a new world record in terms of voltage level, transmission capacity and distance. It will be capable of transporting 12 GW of electricity - the equivalent of 12 large power plants, which represents a 50% increase in transmission capacity, compared with the 800 kV UHVDC lines currently in operation. This will also help extend the transmission distance from 2,000 kilometers to over 3,000 kilometers and play a key role in integrating remote renewable on a large scale, transmitting power over greater distances and facilitating a more interconnected grid.

    Smarter Energy will supply the large cross-section energy-saving conductor series for smart grid and also provide system design support. As desert, Gobi desert and mountain are dominant landforms along the Changji-Guquan link, with poor climate and geological environment and over 45% of complex landforms (mountains, deserts, hills and so on), Smarter Energy adopts the world’s leading key UHVDC transmission technology in the intelligent cables and breaks the bottleneck of large cross-section energy-saving conductor series. With higher margin of electrical and mechanical properties, such kinds of conductors can meet the requirements of performance indicator, and safe, reliable and stable operation system. Meanwhile, the senior team focusing on technological research, development and service will play the positive role in the delivery and implementation of the project.

UHVDC Transmission Facilitates the Integration of Renewable on a Large Scale

    UHVDC transmission technology is the next step up for transmission lines. Fortunately, Far East prospectively follows with interest in this emerging market and takes the first place in the construction of UHV smart gird. In early 2008, Far East Cable Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Far East Cable”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Smarter Energy, successfully became the strategic supplier for the “Xiangjiaba-Shanghai ±800kV UHVDC transmission demonstration project”. This means that Far East participates in the construction of the world’s first 800kV UHVDC transmission line for commercial operation, and facilitates the construction of the “West-East Electricity Transmission Project” in China.
